Directorate-General

The Direzione Generale per le Antichità or Directorate General for Antiquities (DGAnt) is one of eight Directorates-General of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali (Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities).
The responsibilities of this office, as identified by law in force, concern the protection and the research within areas and objects of archaeological interest, as identified by the Legislative Decree 42/2004 "Code of Cultural Heritage and of Landscape". That means all cultural property coming from:
a) excavations and finds (on land or underwater)
b) archaeological sites
c) archaeological collections

Within this sphere, in particular, DGAnt also plays a function of coordination and guidance in respect of the Superintendences for Archaeological Heritage, institutions placed throughout the territory
It is also charged with other specific proceedings as laid out by specific Regulations.
